Tewari's RS candidature a result of SP 'blessings'?

Preetam Srivastava

Even when the Congress leaders claimed consensus of all the members of the State Assembly over the nomination of Pramod Tewari for Rajya Sabha seat, the move clearly pointed blessings of the Samajwadi Party for Tewari just for his ‘co-operation’ to the ruling parties which he forwarded as the Congress legislative Party (ClP), the post which he enjoyed for the longest term.

During over two decades of Tewary’s tenure as ClP, the party’s graph took a downhill slope with each passing polls, but Tewary continued to flourish. After the last Assembly polls, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi realised the loss to the party in UP during last two decades and was surprised to find while State presidents kept on changing, Tewary continued to enjoy his position.

Hence, he took the initiative and shunted out Tewari from the ClP post, replacing him with three time MlA Pradeep Mathur.
