Mohit Kandhari

PDP-BJP alliance Government headed by Mehbooba Mufti in Jammu & Kashmir on Friday admitted that Public Safety Act (PSA) was slapped on the accused involved in desecration of Aap Shambu temple in Jammu without determining the status of his mental health.

PSA was slapped on Yasir Alfaz on June 22 by the District adminsitration Jammu for his involvement in the desecration of temple in Jammu on June 14.

After a flip-flop on slapping of PSA and ruckus in the State Assembly, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh on Friday wrote a letter to Principal of the Government Medical College, Jammu to constitute a medical board to carry out thorough examination of the accused in the case.

Responding to the urgent request made by the Deputy Commissioner Principal GMC Zahid H Gillani constituted a  five- member board to conduct medical examination of Yasir Alfaz. Yasir was involved in desecration of famous temple in Jammu on June 14 and since then the State Govt had failed to carry out his medical examination.

On Thursday some of the PDP MlA's had raised the issue of slapping of PSA on the mentally deranged youth in the State Assembly in Srinagar.

While defending the action taken by the Govt in the case a senior Cabinet Minister Syed Basharat Bukhari had made a statement to verify the mental status of the accused before taking a decision on whether to revoke the PSA slapped against him or not.
