The Monsoon Session of Telangana legislative Assembly has been shortened by a day. The decision to end the session on Friday, a day before the scheduled conclusion on October 10, was taken a day after the entire Opposition barring MIM was suspended from the House after the members stalled the proceedings demanding more discussions on the issue of farmers’ debt.
The move came even as the Opposition Congress, Telugu Desam and the BJP on Tuesday launched their separate programmes to express solidarity with the distressed farmers amid continuing incidents of suicides.
It is believed that the decision to conclude the session on October 9 was taken in view of the Opposition’s call for the State-wide strike next day on the issue of farmers’ suicide.
Congress legislators suspended from the House on Tuesday launched their bus Yatra from Mehbubnagar district. Congress MlAs led by the leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy and the State Congress president Uttam Kumar Reddy visited Kamaluddinpur village and met a family of a deceased farmer.
The bus Yatra program will reach Khammam district on Thursday to create confidence among the farmers. Former MlA R Venkat Reddy said that during the tour the Congress leaders will console the families of the farmers who had committed suicide in the district and extend them a helping hand.
Meanwhile, Telangana Telugu Desam president l Ramanna set the deadline of October 9 for the TRS Government to issue a GO waiving the loans of the farmers.
“Otherwise we will not allow the Chief Minister even to step out of his residence”, he told the reporters in Hyderabad.
TDP’s floor leader in the State Assembly E Dayakar Rao, who held a demonstration in Gajwel constituency of Medak district said that the agitation will continue till the Government does justice to the farmers. He said that in the interest of the farmers the party was agitating along with the Congress party.
