After more than four years of delay, the trial involving rape allegations against former Tehelka Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal got underway on Thursday, with a local trial court recording the statement of the victim, a junior journalistic colleague of Tejpal.

The trial is being conducted in-camera in the courtroom of Additional District and Sessions judge Vijaya Pol and lasted for two whole sessions and is expected to continue on Friday.

Public Prosecutor Francisco Tavora told reporters on Thursday evening, that the victim's statement had been recorded. "The trial will continue on Friday. Because it is an in-camera, we have been instructed by the Court not to share details with the media," the prosecutor said.

Earlier, as he was entering the Court premises, Tejpal, who was accompanied by his family members, said the "truth will come out soon".

Tejpal was accused of rape by a junior colleague at a five star resort in North Goa, where the weekly magazine was hosting an international conclave.

After a First Information Report was registered against him, Tejpal was arrested and was in police and judicial custody for nearly a year.
