TDP, Cong claim victory in rural polls in Andhra

PNS

Opposition Telugu Desam Party has claimed victory in majority of the 5,790 gram panchayats which went to polls in the first phase on Tuesday. Though elections were conducted on a non-party basis, all the major parties were claiming of victory by their supporters.

The TDP has claimed victory in majority of gram panchayats, a similar claim has been made by the ruling Congress party. TDP said it won 2,142 gram panchayats, State Congress president Botsa Satyanarayana on the other hand said that his party won 2,700 bodies. But another assessment by the Chief Minister’s office gave a completely different picture.

According to the sources, the assessment by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy with party leaders suggests that Congress had won 1965 Panchayats with Telugu Desam at second place with 1893. It has put the YSR Congress at third place with 1457 and Telangana Rashtra Samiti 474. This assessment also shows that Congress did well in seven and TDP in eight districts. While YSRCP performed well only in two districts, TRS was ahead in four districts of Telangana. Bad news for the TDP came from Mehbubnagar district which the party president K Chandrashekhar Rao represents in lok Sabha.   “The results show that the Congress party is going to win the 2014 elections”, Botsa Satyanarayana said.
