Giving a big boost to the demand for a separate High Court for the State, Telangana legislative Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution urging the Centre to take the necessary steps. The resolution moved by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was supported by the Opposition Congress, the BJP, MIM and the left parties. Another Opposition party, TDP could not participate as all its members are under suspension for the entire duration of the Budget Session.

The resolution called for the bifurcation of the present High Court at Hyderabad in accordance with the AP Reorganisation Act and the Constitution of India. “The division of High Court would benefit the people of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh”, the Chief Minister said. leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy and the BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy while supporting the resolution also made some suggestions. Jana Reddy suggested that the resolution should assure the Centre that all the necessary facilities will be provided in Hyderabad for setting up the High Court.

Thanking the Opposition for their support, the Chief Minister said that he will keep their suggestions in their mind. “As resolution will not have technical details they cannot be included in it. But I will keep them in mind”, he told the Opposition.

The resolution has come at a time when the advocates all over Telangana were agitating for the bifurcation of the State and were opposing the recruitment of junior judges before the division. The Union law Minister Sadanand Gowda favourably responding to the demand told the lok Sabha two days ago that Telangana will have its own High Court very soon.

Earlier, during his visit to Hyderabad Gowda had said the process of setting up the Telangana High Court will be initiated once the State Government submits a proposal. KCR said that he was moving the resolution in the light of the law Minister’s statement seeking the proposal. The present High Court in Hyderabad is serving both the States since the bifurcation and it has been renamed as Hyderabad High Court for both the State.
