BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday demanded from CBI the transcripts of recorded telephonic conversation of corporate lobbyist Nira Radia relating to alleged kickbacks in civil aviation sector agreements between India and other countries.
“I request you to provide me access to the transcript of the conversation which incidentally is already informally in the public domain. For the purpose of the court, I require an authenticated transcript,” Swamy wrote in his letter to CBI Director Ranjit Sinha.
last week, Supreme Court asked CBI to register cases on eight issues of the Radia tape transcripts involving criminality, including the “role of touts, middlemen and bribery in the Civil Aviation sector.”
“One of the issues, namely issue deals with the touts and middlemen, kickbacks arising from the bilateral agreements between India and foreign countries in the Civil Aviation sector. It is said in media reports that about US$2400 per seat is the agreed rate of bribe for public officials in the Bilateral Agreement,” said Swamy.
He said the matter is directly relevant to his writ petition before the SC on a bilateral agreement between India and the UAE and connected with the Jet Airways-Etihad deal.
