Swamy urges PM to undo 'wrongs' of law officers

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the wrong decisions taken by the Government’s top law officers in crucial cases. In a three-page letter to Modi, he said the stands taken by the law officers in cases related to 66A, Ram Mandir, NJAC and abolition of criminal defamation were against the party line and people’s sentiments. Also, Swamy urged the PM to convene the BJP’s National Executive to decide on the promise of building Ram Mandir.

“Our Government took the stand against the deletion of Section 66A of the IT Act which was introduced by the UPA Government. This shocked all those who take pride in India being a democracy. In Judicial Commission hearings in the Supreme Court, the Attorney General has been specifically critical of the selection of Judges under present prevailing Collegium system. Personal remarks were also made about lady Judges which have been very badly received by the Bar,” said Swamy.

In his letter, Swamy said the law officers headed by AG Mukul Rohatgi are unnecessarily delaying the case for providing amenities to the pilgrims to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. “Disregarding the urgency of the matter, the ASG Maninider Singh has sought one adjournment after another perhaps because the Attorney General and other law officers had no time to think about Ayodhya,” he said.

Also, Swamy asked Modi to prevail upon party President Amit Shah to convene a meeting of the BJP National Executive on implementation of the Hindutva agenda, mainly building Ram Mandir as promised in the 2014 election manifesto. He said Shah has failed to reply to his letter on the issue even after four months on such a crucial issue “dear to the hearts of all our party workers and Sangh Parivar”.
