BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Friday launched a scathing attack on the UPA Government saying the country had progressed more during the NDA rule than the last two terms of the Congress-led dispensation. “India’s GDP growth rate was 8.4 per cent during the NDA’s time in 2003-04. However, it came down to just 4.8 per cent during 2013-14 when the UPA Government is in power,” he said.
He also said that the NDA Government had created 60.7 million jobs in the country between 1999 and 2004 but the UPA regime created only 12.1 million jobs in the country till 2011. He said the value of rupee, which hardly depreciated during the NDA Government’s time fell to record Rs67.70 per dollar.
In building roads also, the NDA Government performed better than the UPA Government, he said. “While only 263 km of road have been built per year in India from 1951 to 1997, 4,467 km of road have been built per year in the country during the NDA Government’s tenure,” he said.
“But only 1,406 km of road have been built in the country per year during the last eight years of the UPA’s term,” he said. Swamy also dared Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Planning Commission’s chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia to prove the statistics wrong.
