Sunanda case: Response sought from Delhi Police on Swamy's plea

PNS

The Supreme Court on Friday sought response from Delhi Police on a petition filed by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy to have a fresh investigation into the conspiracy leading to the death of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

A bench of Justices Arun Mishra and AM Khanwilkar said that the notice is to determine the maintainability of the petition filed by Swamy, a third party to the ongoing case investigation.”Keeping the question of maintainability open, let notice be issued,” said the bench.

Swamy approached the apex court after his petition was dismissed by the Delhi High Court on October 26. He demanded a Court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the reason behind Pushkar's death. She was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a suite of a five-star hotel in Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014. The HC termed Swamy’s petition to be a perfect example of how PIl was used for political interest.

The high court said that Swamy ought to have mentioned his political affiliation as well as that of Tharoor in his plea as these facts had bearing on the adjudication of the case.
