A 20 years old student of JBT from a Dalit family in Bawani Khera of Jind district was gang-raped and murdered in the district. Her body was found near a canal in Jind district around 8 am on Sunday.
Irate over the incident, a mob of more than three dozen youth of Dalit community put the body of the girl on road near the bus stand at Jind and protested against the local police for not taking action against the accused. When police tried to pacify the protestors, they pelted stones on Haryana roadways buses of Jind and damaged more than 30 buses.
Around a dozen police personnel and Haryana roadways employees besides some passengers also got injured during the violent protest. The Police had to lathicharge to control the mob. Rajender Kumar, brother of the deceased told The Pioneer that his sister went to give an exam of JBT at Kinoni village in Jind district on August 24 around 2 pm but never returned. We immediately informed the police, but police did nothing, he alleged.”On Sunday morning, police informed us that they found my sister’s body near the canal.
We requested police to lodge a complaint of rape and murder, as there were number of injury marks on her body, but police refused to do so”, added Kumar. Hence, some people of our community protested against the local police here, added Kumar. In the afternoon, local police under the pressure of people lodged FIR of murder and rape against unknown persons.
