As part of the ongoing Swachhta Pakhwada being observed by Indian Railways from October 1 to 15 a special ‘Clean Train Campaign’ was conducted across various stations of the Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway. The focused drive, organised under the nationwide ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ of the Government of India, aims to promote cleanliness, hygiene and environmental responsibility in railway premises.

Under this campaign, extensive cleaning operations were carried out on trains and platforms at major stations, including Prayagraj Junction, Kanpur Central, Fatehpur, Aligarh Junction, Prayagraj Chheoki, Jalesar City, Tundla Junction, Etawah, and Phaphund. The cleanliness activities covered both the interiors and exteriors of coaches — including toilets, windows, seats, and gangways — along with the surrounding areas of stationary trains on platforms.

The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from railway staff, contractual cleaning workers and on-duty supervisors who ensured deep cleaning of coaches and railway premises using eco-friendly cleaning materials. Awareness drives were also held at stations to encourage passengers to maintain cleanliness during their journey and avoid littering in railway areas.

Passengers were reminded of the collective responsibility of keeping the railways clean, aligning with the spirit of the slogan ‘Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat.’ Posters, announcements and personal interactions were used to spread awareness about the importance of hygiene and civic sense.

Speaking on the occasion, Amit Singh, Public Relations Officer, Prayagraj Division, said, “The Clean Train Campaign is a vital part of our Swachhta Pakhwada initiatives. Our objective is not only to clean trains and stations but to inspire passengers to make cleanliness a daily habit. The railways serve millions of people every day, and their cooperation is essential to sustain this cleanliness drive.”

The Prayagraj Division of NCR continues to run various passenger-centric campaigns under the guidance of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Coaching) Himanshu Shukla to ensure that travellers receive the best possible facilities and services.

In this series of efforts, a special ticket checking drive was conducted on Monday in the Fatehpur–Mirzapur section. The campaign focused on prominent trains, including 12802 Anand Vihar Terminal–Puri Purushottam Express, 12487 Jogbani–Anand Vihar Terminal Seemanchal Express, and 12307 Howrah Junction–Jodhpur Superfast Express. During the intensive checking operation, 70 passengers found travelling without valid tickets or violating cleanliness norms were penalized, resulting in a total fine collection of Rs 39,080. In addition to ticket checking, railway officials also inspected onboard catering services, coach cleanliness, toilet hygiene, and the condition of bedroll facilities to ensure passenger comfort and satisfaction.
