With the flood water inundating different districts of the State, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday asked the Kaziranga National Park Authority and the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police in Golaghat and Nagaon districts to ensure safety and security to the animals in the park during monsoon season.
The Chief Minister held a meeting at Kohora Range of the famed National Park on Tuesday and reviewed the existing situation of the park and asked the concerned authority to complete creating highlands inside the park on war footing for the animals to take shelter during flood.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the anti-poaching measures that the park authority has taken so far against poaching and asked the Kaziranga National Park Management to ensure a fool- proof measure for the supply of animal food and medicines which would be required during the forthcoming flood season.
The Chief Minister also advocated for a synergistic approach between the park authority, district administration and villagers living along the fringe area of the park to create a shield against poachers who might sneak in the park area taking advantage of surging water.
He also took stock of the facilities provided to the forest guards and other employees of the Kaziranga National Park.
It may be mentioned here that with incessant rainfall in some areas of the state, Assam is gradually witnessing the first wave of floods this year. Although flood has not caused any major damage so far this year, at least one lakh people in two districts including lakhimpur and Karimganj are reeling under floods as on today.
