Sonia holds talks with party leaders about fate of Jharkhand

PNS

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday held deliberations with senior party leaders about fate of Jharkhand where President’s rule is coming to an end on July 18.

Sonia, along with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Defence Minister AK Antony, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh was briefed by AICC in-charge of Jharkhand Shakeel Ahmad and the PCC president and ClP leader about the various options available before the party in the State.

They pointed out the positives and negatives about forming a government with JMM. It would help the Congress to form an alliance for the lok Sabha polls and even for Assembly polls. A majority of State leaders are in favour of forming the Government as Assembly polls is about two years away. However, another section is not in favour of going with the JMM as it would impact the Congress’ image just like it did for supporting Madhu Koda as the Chief Minister.

Since no unanimity emerged at the meeting, Sonia said that the Congress Core Group will discuss the matter in detail and then take a final decision about whether to form the Government in the State with like-minded parties or go for elections.
