SIT to probe rape charge against Congress MlA

PNS

A special investigation team of the Kerala Police headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajitha Begum will probe the charge of rape against Congress MlA AP Abdullakutty. It was on Monday that the police had registered a case against Abdullakutty for rape and other non-bailable offences. The case was registered by the Cantonment Women’s Police in Thiruvananthapuram on the basis of a complaint lodged by con woman Saritha S Nair, prime accused in several cheating cases related to the solar scam.

Abdullakutty has been charged for rape and charges of attempt to rape and issuance of threats have also been slapped on him. Saritha had said in her complaint that Abdullakutty, MlA from Kannur, had raped her by calling her to his room in a famous hotel. Sources in the police said that Abdullakutty would have to be arrested and questioned as the charges made against him are very serious. Abdullakutty, a former Marxist MP, had joined Congress in 2009 after his expulsion from CPI(M). Observers said development could affect the fortunes of Congress in the Kannur constituency.

Saritha, who had on March 3 publicly accused Abdullakutty of stalking and harassing her with continuous phone calls and SMSes with obscene contents, has supplemented her five-page complaint with evidences like phone call records. Abdullakutty had met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala after the police initiated case against him.

Saritha filed her complaint with the police a day after Abdullakutty said that he too had several “explosive” allegations to level against her and that he would make the disclosure after the lok Sabha election. He had earlier rejected her allegations.
