letters from senior BJP leaders Shanta Kumar and Subramanian Swamy to BJP president Amit Shah seemed to have caused some uneasiness in the party which is already warming up to battle out the stormy monsoon session.
Kumar, whose letter to Shah demanding 'lok Pal' in the party to tackle corruption cases, has gone public, prompting the BJP to disapprove of it even as the veteran asserted he stood by his statement and spoke his "mann ki baat".
In his letter, the former Union Minister in the Vajpayee Government, also referred to allegations in "some States", hinting to the controversy in Rajasthan surrounding CM Vasundhara Raje over lalit Modi and Maharashtra where there are allegations of corruption against BJP Minister Pankaja Munde besides Vyapam case in Madhya Pradesh with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan facing the opposition onslaught.
The 80-year-old former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister has pressed for setting up an "ethics committee" which should act like a lokpal to "keep a check on leaders in the Government".
He said "I have written the letter and I stand by every word of it."
Talking to a TV channel, the BJP leader said through the letter he let out "mann ki baat".
Reacting to party leader's comments, Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the party completely disassociated itself with it.
"We generally consider Shanta Kumar a very mature leader. But it seems that he has been carried away by the propoganda of the Congress Party. Whatever he has said or written, we completely disassociate with Mr Shanta Kumar's version," Rudy said.
Meanwhile, Swamy in his letter to Shah outlined a legal framework to approach the issue of the Ram temple at Ayodhya. After shooting off a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this month, Swamy has now, for the second time, written to Shah, seeking convening of a meeting of the National Executive of the party to discuss the implementation of certain promises made.
Swamy expressed dismay at the fact that Shah had not replied to his earlier letter in March which sought a discussion on this issue and other matters, which are "popularly described as Hindutva issue".
