Taking a jibe at Rahul Gandhi’s remark that Assam will be run from Nagpur if BJP comes to power in the State, BJP national president Amit Shah on Thursday said that the country was run from Italy for ten years when the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government was in power at the Centre.

Shah said this while addressing a public rally at Ratabari in Assam’s Barak Valley on Thursday and added that Sarbananda Sonowal, who is leading the party in Assam, hails from Assam and not from Nagpur.

He also said that Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi seems to have been tired and that he should be allowed to take rest as young leaders like Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma are all set to serve the people of Assam.

“Rahul Gandhi has said that Assam will be run from Nagpur if BJP comes to power in Assam. But Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma are not from Nagpur but from Assam. I would also like to remind Rahulji that when his Government was in power, the country was run from Italy,” Shah said.

“You tell me whether Gogoiji looks tired or notIJ He is tired and should be allowed to take rest. Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma are young and they are all ready to serve the people of Assam,” said Shah, who addressed four back to back rallies in Assam’s Barak Valley — Ratabari, Hailakandi, Dhalai and Barkahlla.
