Minister for Roads Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that vested interests are opposed to bringing in transparency and computerisation in the transport sector. Gadkari said since the Road Transport and Safety Bill, 2015 falls under the concurrent list, where both the Centre and the States have a right, there are several parties lobbying against the new road Bill. “Despite our best efforts the Road safety Bill could not be introduced in Parliament. This is a difficult problem for us. The Bill will take care of transparency in issuance of driving licences and registrations etc. Vested interests are trying to obstruct this Act. We will try to get it passed in the winter session,” he said.
