Staff Reporter

Delhi Police on Friday arrested seven women for pick-pocketing on the Delhi Metro and recovered jewelry worth Rs seven lakh from their possession. Police officials probing the case said all seven were residents of central Delhi's Kathputli Colony and three of them had previous criminal involvements. Sanjay Bhatia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) confirmed the arrests.

Police said that the women have been identified as Sharda, Parwati, Roshni, Reeta, Renu, Nisha and Poonam. They were arrested from the Barakhamba Metro station after a passenger caught them red-handed. However, the complainant was able to realise what they were up to in time, raised an alarm and, with the help of co-passengers, was able to overpower the accused before handing them over to the police.

Female police personnel searched the seven women and found several pieces of jewellery which the gang admitted to having lifted. This was later ascertained to be worth around Rs seven lakhs. "The women have been arrested under relevant sections of the law," DCP Bhatia said.
