Three day ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, suspected militants triggered two blasts in Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday morning.

However, there is no report of any causality during both the blasts.

The blasts, however, send the security forces into a tizzy and the security forces has been intensified in and around the States to foil any attempt of the militants to carry out subversive activities.

Narrating the incident, police said that while the first blast took place at tea rich Doomdooma area in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district, the second blast took place at South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya on Thursday morning.

The blasts took place in the wake of the boycott call given by several militant outfits, who are opposed to talks including the anti-talk faction of Ulfa, the national Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), Garo National liberation Army (GNlA) and several others.

It may be mentioned here that anti-talk faction of the militants had triggered two blasts in Manipur capital Imphal on Wednesday injuring one person.

The anti-talk faction of NDFB militants had also attacked innocent civilians in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Friday and killed 14 civilians and injured 20 others. The security forces had also killed one of the militants the same day.

A senior official of the Assam police said that security had been intensified across the state particularly ahead of the Independence Day celebrations and in the aftermath of the recent violence in Kokrajhar. “The militants had also given a boycott call and might try to disrupt the celebrations. However, we have put the security forces on alert and security arrangements have been intensified to foil any attempt of the militants,” said the official.
