Scribe turns saviour for injured RS Pura civilian

PNS

Without caring for his own safety amid continuous mortar shelling from the Pakistani side, a journalist on Monday rescued an injured civilian from Devigarh area of RS Pura sector and admitted him to the Government Medical College Hospital.

Timely action by the journalist, identified as Vijay Bhardwaj, helped the civilian receive medical treatment in time. The civilian was identified as 65-year-old Girdhari lal of Sai village. He was hit by splinters on his legs and one hand soon after he got up around 5.00 am. He had taken shelter at his close relative’s house during the night.

The duo waited for about one hour but failed to get an ambulance or any other vehicle due to the intense shelling in the area. Finally, a friend of the scribe requested him to arrange for a vehicle to shift the injured civilian. Instead of wasting time Vijay decided to visit the spot and help the man. He rushed  to his car with the injured man in his arms amid continuous exchange of fire from both sides.  “Vijay came to my rescue and lifted me in his arms and put me in his car and brought me here to GMC, Jammu,” Girdhari lal said.

When contacted Vijay Bhardwaj, working with a private TV channel told The Pioneer, “When I first received the message that a civilian was in need of help as he was hit by splinters I didn’t think twice and shifted him to GMC, Jammu in my car”. Two years ago Vijay had rescued six civilians from Jeora farms in RS Pura under similar circumstances.
