The BJP on Wednesday claimed that a “baffled and rattled” Congress had no match to Narendra Modi’s popularity and the ruling party was now planning to misuse the CBI to implicate the Gujarat Chief Minister and his aides in certain encounter cases.
A day after the news reports claimed that the CBI would give a clean chit to Mayawati in disproportionate assets case and to the killed leT terrorist Ishrat Jahan, the Opposition party reiterated its charge about a blatant misuse of the investigating agency in order to keep the UPA-led Government surviving.
“After innumerable broken promises and neck deep corruption charges, the Congress has no answer to the glory of Narendra Modi. So, it is trying to divert attention from the real issues and pinning its hope on the Ishrat Jahan case. The Congress considers Modi as a big political threat. But any move to implicate him or his colleague would backfire,” former BJP chief M Venkaiah Naidu said.
Naidu also pointed out that the Intelligence agencies and Union Home Ministry had even described Ishrat Jahan as a terrorist, a claim which was corroborated by the 26/11 attack accused David Headley, but the Centre changed its opinion to serve narrow political interests.
“In order to settle scores with the BJP, the Congress even targeted the IB officials,” Naidu said. The BJP leaders also sought to know from the CBI why there was a “change of heart” in the investigating agency in DA cases against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati.
“You CBI) only filed the case against them and now you say there is no case against the. How both the situation can exists simultaneously. Everybody knows the credibility of the CBI. It is being used by the Congress to keep the UPA intact and scout for new allies. This Government would have gone much earlier, but managed to stick to power with the help of the CBI,” Naidu said.
