The BJP  in unison chanted   "Satyamev Jayate"  after the Supreme Court  on Friday upheld  the Special investigation (SIT)’s clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 63 others in the Gujarat riots of 2002, when he was the State's Chief Minister, and dismissed a plea by slain Congress leader Ehsan Jafri's wife  Zakia alleging a larger conspiracy.

Welcoming the judgment , BJP leader and Union minister Anurag Thakur said, "Satyamev Jayate! Similar was the response of other party leaders who tweeted  soon after the Supreme Court  delivered the judgment.

"Satyamev Jayate,"(Truth alone triumphs) was how another Union minister Smriti Irani also put it while party spokesperson Sambit Patra also tweeted the same expression. Describing  the apex court's judgment as a “befitting reply to Modi haters”, , BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala  also said  “The truth always prevails. The magistrate had accepted the SIT closure report, it was upheld by the Gujarat High Court and upheld by the Supreme Court as well.

There is a cottage industry of Modi haters. They went to the extent of defaming Gujarat, defaming India, and today these people have got a resounding and befitting reply from the Supreme Court.”

Another  BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia  said, “The honourable Supreme court has given a verdict of great importance to everyone. And it shows that though justice has been delayed, it has not been denied. We welcome the judgement.”
