A woman short service commission officer who missed out on getting a permanent commission in Air Force after being detected with a heart ailment got a tongue lashing from Supreme Court on Friday for persisting with her appeal to be retained by the force.

Dismissing her appeal against an order passed by the Armed Forces Tribunal, the bench of Chief Justice TS Thakur and Justice R Banumathi said, “Air Force and Navy prepare you for combat. It is not an old age home where all sick, diseased and medically unfit persons can be accommodated.”

The petitioner, Squadron leader Shilpa Rao was commissioned in the IAF on June 18, 2005 and had completed her tenure in July last year.
