SRINAGAR: The Union government has appointed senior IAS officer Sajjan Singh Yadav as the new chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday.

Yadav, a 1995-batch officer of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, has been transferred from Delhi to the Union Territory. His appointment will take effect from November 1 or the date he assumes charge, whichever is later.

He will succeed Atal Dulloo, a 1989-batch IAS officer who is scheduled to retire on October 31. Dulloo took over as Jammu and Kashmir’s chief secretary on December 1, 2023, after serving in several administrative positions.

Yadav is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary and chief executive officer of the Delhi Jal Board. His appointment marks a change in the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir’s top administrative office.

The chief secretary is the senior-most bureaucratic official in the Union Territory’s administration, coordinating government departments and overseeing the implementation of administrative decisions and policies.
