The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday asked the leadership of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to stop playing the role of anarchists in Punjab politics. In the same breath, the party appreciated the State Home Minister Sukhbir Badal for taking prompt and decisive action with regard to the recent incident in ludhiana.
“It is unfortunate that AAP, which had failed to provide any responsible leadership in Punjab, is now trying to create fissures in civil society…This will not be tolerated at any cost,” said the senior SAD leaders, including Cabinet Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, and party general secretary Maheshinder Singh Grewal.
Also condemning AAP leader Sucha Singh Chottepur’s demand of Sukhbir’s resignation, they termed the same as “sheer absurdity”. “Action was taken against police personnel involved in the incident and even the district police chief on the basis of a quick preliminary inquiry. Now the law is taking its course with criminal cases being registered against a number of persons including police personnel. We appreciate Sukhbir Badal for taking such prompt decisive action and are satisfied that justice has been done in the matter,” the leaders said.
Grewal said that it was people like Chottepur who were the real threat to the system as they were creating discord in society. “Chottepur should look into his own credentials before pointing fingers at Sukhbir Badal…he is known to be part of militant movement in Punjab. The leaders also urged the people and society to keep calm and snub anti-social elements who were trying to create fissures in the name of caste. “We have won peace in Punjab after a lot of sacrifices and we should not allow anyone to disturb it any cost,” they added.
