The month-long audio visual extravaganza to mark one year of the Modi Government kicked off on Monday with the inauguration of the first-ever multimedia exhibition of its kind by the Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley. The theme of the occasion, organised by DAVP, was “Saal Ek, Shuruat Anek.”

“The multimedia mode has been adopted to sensitise common man on the different initiatives taken across critical sectors by the Government. As part of the outreach initiative, the I&B Ministry will highlight these initiatives across State Capitals, cities and villages,” said Jaitley.

Similar exhibitions will commence in the state capitals from Tuesday. Henceforth, it will be held in 60 more cities in the respective local languages. DAVP has deployed 345 mobile publicity vans to display various schemes of the government in 643 districts in the country for the next one month.

The second phase of the programme aiming at  greater outreach will cover 30 sites selected with varying dates of commencement. The campaign on such sites would commence from June 7 to June 20. This exercise is aimed at providing more focused approach for disseminating information through the various units of media.

Speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi showing him in a large cut out at the backdrop of the Red Fort were presented.

Jaitley focused on various schemes of the government undertaken since  the past one year. These include ‘Jan Dhan Yojana’ for financial inclusion, ‘Annadata Sukhi Bhava’ for welfare of farmers, ‘Shramdeva Jayate’ for ensuring dignity of labour and ‘Swacch Bharat’ to propagate cleanliness.

The Minister also highlighted the key features of the proposed Kisan Channel which is to be launched on Tuesday by the Prime Minister.  The farming community will not only be benefitted in terms of latest knowhow and technology related to agriculture, but it will also help them to develop understanding on larger issues based on meteorology amongst others, said Jaitley.

The Government has made it a “must carry” channel making it mandatory for cable and Direct to Home (DTH) operators to provide it to their subscribers. “Since there are farmers in every state, so under the Cable Act, the Kisan channel has been made a must-carry channel. Must carry means that it is compulsory for every cable network or DTH network to carry it,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Jaitley pointed out.
