The Gujarat Government has no sympathy for those who don’t have compassion towards cow, said Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on his Government's recent decision to notify rules for cow protection through the Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, 2017.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a felicitation function organised by Samast Kshtriya Samaj and Mandhatasinh Jadeja of royal family of Rajkot for the Gujarat Government’s move on cow protection. Cow Protection Act is nothing but a strong message to protect Indian culture, Rupani said.
“I am sorry to say that still some people are doing politics over cow slaughter. They are still active in politics by supporting cow slaughter to appease certain segments
just for the sake of vote-bank politics. My Government set aside vote-bank politics and passed the Bill as cow is the symbol of faith for crores of people in this country,” said Rupani.
He said after he became the CM, he knew that his Government would have only one budget session as election is due in 2017.
“Hence I said that I am here to play 20-20 match. We took quick decision and in the last budget session 24 Bills were passed in the State Assembly, including that of Cow Protection Bill.”
Thanking Kshatriya community for acknowledging the State Government’s work, Rupani said that he was happy to be felicitated by those, whose ancestors gave sacrifice to protect Indian culture and fought with valour against the invaders.
Remembering king of erstwhile Bhavnagar State Krishnakumarsinhji, the Chief Minister said that he sent famous Gir breed cows to Brazil decades ago. Today the latin American country is the top milk producer in the world.
“Cow is important for agriculture and rural economy. Even if a cow would not give milk, it would give adequate fertilizer for 25 bighas of land in a year. Gir breed cows have got place in Brazil's currency note, but in India the Gir cows were reduced to less than 15,000,'” said Jadeja, adding that Kshtriya community in the State wholeheartedly support the Rupani Government's initiative to protect cows.
Apart from Raghuvirsinh of Sirohi royal family in Rajasthan, who was the chief guest of the Gujarat CM’s felicitation programme, members of the royal families of erstwhile princely States of Wankaner, Danta, Devgadh Bariya, Chuda, Maliya, Poshina and others from across Gujarat were present.
