The RSS has come down heavily on former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran for his allegations made in Chennai on Thursday that the Sangh was behind the arrest of his close aides by the CBI in connection with the high power “illegal telephone exchange”, which had been installed at his residence in Chennai.
In a hard hitting statement on Friday, N Sadagopan, the RSS spokesman, charged Dayanidhi Maran for blaming the RSS baselessly. “The CBI has filed a case against former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran in 2013 for misusing his official position to install an illegal telephone exchange at his residence in Chennai. During the course of its investigation, the CBI has arrested three persons including Maran’s personal secretary and two employees of Sun TV network. Instead of facing charges against him, Maran is unnecessarily indulging in blaming RSS baselessly. The RSS is in no way connected with the investigation,” Sadagopan said in the statement.
Pointing out that the existence of the illegal telephone exchange was brought out by S Gurumurthy, an auditor who is also an RSS activist, Sadagopan said Gurumurthy has brought to the public domain many cases of corruption in high places. “Those who were charged with corruption in those cases never slandered the name of the RSS. Dayanidhi Maran dragged the name of the Sangh in order to divert the attention of the public from the serious charges against him,” said Sadagopan.
He also declared that the RSS does not require the support of any political parties. “We are involved in silent constructive activities. People in India know well that the RSS is a movement which keeps away from party and power,” said the unusually strongly worded release by Sadagopan. He also pointed out that the Sangh has been growing in Tamil Nadu in spite of the obstacles, slander and unjust allegations levelled by the Dravidian parties. “RSS Tamil Nadu strongly condemns Dayanidhi Maran for his wanton slander of the RSS in order to cover up his corruption and divert the public attention from the charges against him,” said the statement by Sadagopan.
