On Wednesday, when two Pakistani terrorists ambushed BSF convoy near Narsu Nallah in Samroli area along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, 1-A BSF Constable Rocky of 59 Bn BSF hailing from Yamunanagar district of Haryana stood like a ‘rock of safety’ between his fellow soldiers and the armed terrorists before neutralising one of them in a courageous act of valor.
The armed terrorist after spraying bullets on the driver of the bus and deflating tyres had attempted to barge inside the bus to kill BSF soldiers. But before he could gain access Rocky, only armed guard present on board the bus, swiftly retaliated with his service weapon and neutralised one the terrorist.
Rocky was complimented and assisted by another fellow traveler Constable Shubendu Rai of 2 Bn BSF, from Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal. While a terrorist desperately tried to gain entry inside the bus Rai tightly held the front door from inside without giving any opportunity to the terrorist to gain entry inside it.
Rocky’s gallant act not only forced the second terrorist to run away towards the hill from the encounter site but also saved precious lives of over 40 other BSF soldiers.
Bleeding profusely, both Rocky and Shubendu Rai attained martyrdom in the line of duty without reaching their final destination.
According to official sources, 45 soldiers were present in the bus at the time of the attack. 11 other BSF soldiers injured in the attack had received splinter injuries due to grenade explosion.
Director General BSF DK Pathak while paying tributes to BSF jawans said, “I am proud of my jawans. They have shown exemplary courage in the line of duty and attained martrydom while saving lives of their fellow soldiers.”
In Jammu senior officers of the BSF and over 200 jawans paid last respects at a solemn wreath laying ceremony before their mortal remains were dispatched to their native places.
IG BSF Jammu frontier Rakesh Sharma in his brief message said by sacrificing their lives in the line of duty BSF soldiers have once again shown that they are always ready to sacrifice their life for the Nation.
