The Jharkhand unit of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) plans to send around 10,000 leaders and workers to Delhi to participate in a protest rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1 against the policies of the Narendra Modi-led Central government.
The announcement was made by RJD legislature party leader Suresh Paswan at a press conference following a meeting of the party’s state unit at its Ranchi office on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by state president Sanjay Kumar Singh Yadav and conducted by former minister and state principal general secretary Satyanand Bhokta.
Paswan said party leaders and workers would participate in the Delhi rally carrying RJD flags and banners under the leadership of the party’s national working president, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. He alleged that the Centre was withholding royalty dues owed to Jharkhand, affecting the state’s development, and raised concerns over the deletion of voters’ names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
He said the RJD would continue its agitation on these issues and take them up both on the streets and in legislative forums.
During the organisational meeting, state president Sanjay Kumar Singh Yadav directed district in-charges to coordinate with district presidents and strengthen party committees from the panchayat and block levels to the district level. They have been asked to submit the names, contact details, addresses and photographs of panchayat presidents and block presidents to the state office by November 30.
Districts without panchayat- or block-level committees have been asked to constitute them within 20 days. The party also called on its district units to raise local public-interest issues, including SIR and reservation-related matters.
The meeting discussed preparations for upcoming panchayat, Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, with an emphasis on strengthening the organisation and expanding its electoral presence.
Paswan said Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was expected to visit Jharkhand after November, when district-level workers’ conferences would be organised. The party also plans to hold district conferences after Diwali and Chhath.
Several party legislators, office-bearers, district presidents and district in-charges attended the meeting.
