The Madras High Court on Thursday suspended till September 4 the look Out Circular issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation against Karti Chidambaram, son of former union finance minister P Chidambaram.

Justice Duraiswamy , while disposing of a petition filed by Kart Chidambaram seeking the court directive to quash the lOC, issued the order after Gopal Subramanian ,the counsel for the petitioner, told the court that his client would make himself available before the CBI after August 28.

The lOC dated July 18 was issued under Section 10B of the Passport Act by the union ministry of home affairs. The circular is a fall out of the First Information Report filed by the CBI against Karti Chidambaram for his alleged involvement  in a Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance in favour  of a media house owned by Indrani and Peter Mukherjee in 2007. Chidambaram was the union finance minister at that time and Karti is alleged to have used his influence in the finance ministry to help the Mukherjees against norms. Karti is reported to have helped the media house through a consultancy firm by name Advantage Strategic Consultancy owned by him  by offering “liaison services”.
