Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday also challenged Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi to debate the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and EVMs in Parliament instead of "issuing challenges" on social media.
In a post on X, she noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had already said the government was ready to convene a special session of Parliament to debate SIR and electronic voting machines. Both the exchanges followed Gandhi's dare to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an open debate on his "anti-national" charge against the opposition.
"Rahul ji, you ask the Prime Minister to choose a venue for a debate. There is already one: Parliament, where you happen to be the LoP," she said. "You say, 'Daro mat'. Then bring the facts, face the scrutiny and stay to hear the answers."
Sitharaman also accused Gandhi and his party of walking out during government replies and of disrupting proceedings that led to washed-out sittings. She also described the INDIA bloc's "public impeachment" exercise at Mallikarjun Kharge's residence as "more a mockery of Parliament than a mock Parliament".
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also criticised Gandhi in a post. (With inputs from PTI and media reports)
