Rebel Congress leader Bhunia all set to join Didi

The Congress party is going to receive the deadliest blow in Bengal since this year’s Assembly elections with senior party leader and AICC member Manas Bhunia having made up his mind to cross over to the Trinamool Congress.

Bhunia who is at loggerheads with PCC president Adhir Chowdhury and Opposition leader Abdul Mannan for their alleged “dictatorial style of functioning” said the situation in the Congress was such that “it is becoming difficult to continue in the party with self respect. Situation has forced me to ponder over other possibilities. I have begun thinking whether to continue in the party or quit it.”

Sources said along with Bhunia four other party general secretaries Kanak Debnath, Ajoy Ghosh, Khalid Ibadullah and Manoj Pandey were also planning to join the Trinamool Congress.

“I have been in the party for the past 46 years and have never faced such a humiliating situation. Some leaders (read Chowdhury and Mannan) are always maligning me instead of doing their real work that is to stem the recent trend of defection when most of our men are joining the Trinamool.”
