Activists of DYFI, the CPI(M) youth wing, on Wednesday roughed up Kerala’s Congress MlA AP Abdullakutty at Kannur demanding his arrest and resignation in the rape case registered against him on the basis of a complaint lodged by con woman Saritha S Nair (36), prime accused in 46 cases of fraud related to the infamous solar scam, with the police.

The young Marxists detained Abdullakutty by force for about an hour at a hotel near Payyambalam beach in Kannur on Wednesday afternoon when he arrived there to take part in a meeting of the district Congress committee. Abdullakutty was released from DYFI’s detention after the police intervened with mild use of force on the protestors.

However, CPI(M)’s Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan said that the protests would continue till the rape-accused MlA resigned and was arrested. “Are there different kinds of justice for different peopleIJ What we see in Abdullakutty’s case is that the police are providing escort to him in violation of the Supreme Court guidelines regarding rape cases,” he said. Kannur MP K Sudhakaran, also the mentor of Abdullakutty in the Congress party, said it was for the police to probe the charges against the MlA.
