Milan Sarkar — the prime accused in the Ranaghat nun rape case — had been arrested along with a co-accused Ohidul Islam Babu late on Thursday night, CID probing the case said on Friday.
The duo, who had since been remanded to police custody, belong to Bangladesh and were known history-sheeters crossing over to India on several occasions even after committing the March 14 crime when they raped a 70-year-old nun inside a convent school at Ranaghat in Nadia district.
The other accused Sk Salim, Gopal Sarkar and Mintu Sheikh had already been arrested earlier. “We arrested them on Thursday night and are now interrogating them to ascertain as to why they committed such a crime after committing the robbery,” DIG CID DK Adak said.
