The road to negotiations in Cop 21 in Paris has more hope and positivity, eminent German green economist Ralf Fücks, the author of “Green Growth Smart growth” and President of Heinrich Boll Stiftung, an international organisation that works on various green issues amongst others, said on Monday.

Ralph, who is in India, felt that with more than 160 countries having already submitted their pledges to UNFCC on reduction of carbon emissions through INDC, there is some kind of a competition now as to who can achieve what in this regard.

According to him, the secret of green economy is to decouple growth from environmental degradation. This involves moving from fossil fuel to renewables, efficiency revolution, zero-waste economy amongst others. Economic growth should also correspond to smart growth, he said

He stressed that climate-friendly strategies can open up a plethora of job opportunities, which can contribute to economy.
