The Rajasthan Chief Minister has recommended a CBI probe into the ambulance scam. Ex-CM Ashok Gehlot and some other Congress leaders have been named accused.
Earlier, Rajasthan Police chief Omendra Bhardwaj had written to CM Vasundhara Raje, recommending that the probe into an alleged scam in operating the 108 ambulance scheme under her predecessor Ashok Gehlot should be handed over to the CBI. The State Police has been investigating but Bhardwaj feels that since the case involves a scheme and related funds, it would be appropriate if it is handled by the central agency. State's Health Minister Rajendra Rathore said the case should be handed over to the CBI. In July last year, a complaint alleging financial discrepancies of Rs 2.56 crore in the State-run 108 ambulance service was filed by former Jaipur Municipal Corporation Mayor Pankaj Joshi naming Gehlot, former Union Minister Sachin Pilot and former CEO of Ziqitza Healthcare Sweta Mangal among others.
