Ravi Sreenivasan (49), an entrepreneur based in Puducherry, heaved a sigh of relief on Tuesday when news trickled in about the SC striking down Section 66A of the IT Act.
Sreenivasan, who had just 17 followers, had tweeted that Karti Chidambaram, son of the then powerful Finance Minister P Chidambaram, had made more money than Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
“Though it is more than two years, I am still fighting the case in court. The next hearing is scheduled for Friday. But I am sure with Tuesday’s SC verdict, the case in which I am an accused too would become infructuous,” Sreenivasan told media. A police team had picked up Sreenivasan from his home on October 30, 2012 and dragged him to the nearby police station where he was threatened with dire consequences for “making unfounded and baseless allegations against powerful and mighty people”. Though he was granted bail by the local court, it took the family months to recover from the trauma.
