An incident of alleged molestation of a Class II student in IT city Bengaluru has sent shock waves and led to a massive protest by the parents and public on Wednesday. This yet another incident of child abuse which came to the fore has shamed the city. According to the Bengaluru police, an FIR has been registered and the teacher has been taken into custody.
The horrible inhuman incident took place a few days back and only on Wednesday the police registered an FIR based on the complaint by the parents. Infuriated parents clashed with the school authorities on Wednesday and police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the protesting crowd. The police also used tear-gas shells to disperse the agitating protesters. The parents were demanding the culprit to be handed over to them. According to the eye witness, the Physical Education teacher, in a private school in West Bengaluru’s Byatarayanapura, was attacked and beaten up by the public following allegations that he had attempted to sexually harass an 8-year-old within the school premises.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner MN Reddi told the media that an eight-year-old school girl was sexually assaulted in her school and the accused teacher has been taken into custody. He also assured swift probe into the case and urged the people to remain calm.
Justifying police action on the protesters, Reddi said that the victim’s parents along with some other locals were demanding that the accused be handed over to them for instant justice, which was objected by the policemen present there.
Reddi said the protesters didn’t relent to the request of police and tried to take law into their own hands. This led to the police to use tear gas and lathicharge to disperse the agitators. He said, “When the situation went out of control, we had to resort to lathicharge and use tear gas. We will not allow mob justice of any kind to take place in the city, there a police force to bring the criminals to justice.”
The Bengaluru Police Commissioner appealed to the public to remain calm and warned that the police won’t allow them to take law into their own hands. He assured that the situation has been taken under control.
In 2014, several cases of sexual exploitation of minor school girls were reported from Bengaluru. In October last year, a three-year-old girl student was allegedly sexually abused inside a private school.
An eight year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her 63-year-old teacher inside her school premises over a period of time, with the offence coming to fore in early August, barely a month after the "gang-rape" of a six-year-old girl at Vibgyor High School evoked massive public outrage.
