Even as Telangana Government appointed Prof T Papi Reddy as the Chairman of Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) to oversee the admission in the professional courses, Andhra Pradesh Government has dismissed it saying the appointment as an unconstitutional step.
The Telangana Government issued the formal orders of appointment of Papi Reddy who was serving as the Professor of Economics in Kakatiya University, Warangal. Prof Reddy, who had played a leading role in movement for separate Telangana State, expressed happiness over his appointment and said that he will work to protect the interest of Telangana students. “There is no need for the students of Telangana to worry. We will protect their interests,” he said adding that the statements of Andhra Pradesh Ministers do not make any difference.
On the other hand the Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resources Development Ganta Srinvias Rao said that the Telangana Government’s move of setting up its own Council for Higher Education was unconstitutional and it was another attempt to stop the counselling process.
Telangana Government made the move after existing Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) had announced its schedule of counselling for admission in to engineering course from August 7 and Telangana Government opposed it.Andhra Pradesh Government argues that under the AP State Reorganisation Act, APSCHE had the powers to oversee the admission in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana but Telangana Government did not agree with this.
