Peer pressure and inability to perform as per the expectation of their father — an assistant sub-inspector with the Delhi Police — forced two siblings, students of Class IX and XII, to make suicide bids in West Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area. The mother of the two followed suit fearing her husband’s fury.
The boy, Neeraj (14), was recently promoted to Class X but was depressed over his performance in Class IX. His sister, Tamanna (18), failed in her Class XII exams.
On Tuesday evening, Neeraj consumed poison. Finding him unconscious and fearing his father’s reaction, Neeraj’s mother, Kamlesh (36) and his sister, Tamanna, too consumed poison.
“One of their neighbours spotted them lying on the floor and informed Pradeep Kumar, Neeraj’s father. They were taken to a hospital where Tammana was declared brought dead, while Kamlesh succumbed on Wednesday. Neeraj was discharged on Thursday,” a police official said.
