'Political ambitions derailed anti-graft stir'

India Against Corruption’ leader and social activist Kiran Bedi has blamed political ambitions for derailing the movement against corruption ongoing in the country. The former IPS officer who has parted ways from former colleague Arvind Kejriwal after he launched Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also termed herself apolitical.

“We ran a vigorous movement for a strong lokpal but the movement could not remain united and headed for different avenues. The pressure that should have been there for the lokpal is not there at the moment. Now it is not clear whether the lokpal has to be brought or not. I think it (movement) has weakened because a large section has moved towards politics,” said Bedi on Wednesday.

Bedi, after Kejriwal jumped into politics, had distanced herself from him and had openly critised him for his political endeavour. She though remained in Anna

Hazare’s fold and toed the Gandhian’s line to remain apolitical while taking forward the movement.

She denied any differences with Kejriwal, but at the same time also refused to extend her support for the AAP.

“Arvind Kejriwal has made a political party. However, intentions of all these people are not bad. But I have no political orientations and won’t support any party,” she said.

Bedi choose the occasion also to critise lokayukta in Jharkhand while terming the office as burden on the system.

Kiran Bedi was in Ranchi to launch her initiative for selecting 50 underprivileged children form Jharkhand.

Her NGO Nav Jyoti in association with Bank of India and Aryans Group of Colleges would provide formal education to the children along with professional trainings.

Selection process for scholarship would commence following the applications received through mail on

scholarship@aryans.edu.in. Bedi also launched a helpline number 09876299888.
