PM's Rajan defence too late: Cong

PNS

The Congress on Monday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being too late in defending RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan against whom his own party man and Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy has unleashed a campaign.

“This is the double standards of BJP politics and Government. Why did this not happen earlier and sooner when the first comment against RBI Governor and thereafter, for other leading Finance Ministry officials poured inIJ This is shameful now,” Congress spokesman Kapil Sibal said at the AICC briefing when asked about the reaction to the PM’s statement on comments emerging from politicians like Swamy.

The former Union Minister said that such a clarification from the PM should have come when Swamy had opened a front against Rajan. The party also said this government is clueless even about diplomacy, particularly in the context of Pakistan. Sibal targeted the RSS saying while our security personnel are getting martyred, they were busy inviting the Pakistan High Commissioner to Iftar parties.

“What kind of policy is thisIJ Our Prime Minister has no knowledge of diplomacy. It is not a sound and light show. Foreign policy is done with a sense of maturity. Diplomacy is conducted in sober manner. But we see none of that in this government,” he said.

“The product of the Modi Government’s foreign policy is Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Pampore. That’s the reality on the ground,” he added.

The party also found opportunity to accuse the PM for practicing petty politics in raking up the issue of Emergency in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio program. “How do you have an anniversary on Emergency and how do you do a ‘Mann ki Baat’ on EmergencyIJ What happened in 1975, why do you talk about it in 2016IJ What is the relevance of that todayIJ You can’t have such an Emergency today. Why are you talking about it except for petty politics,” he added.

Sibal further castigated Modi Government for deflecting from real issues and said that there are many Emergency like issues prevalent in India which need due attention.
