Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met the 21 Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) team which successfully carried out a cross-border raid in Myanmar on June 9 against North-East insurgents. led by their Commanding Officer, the team of commandos gave a brief description about the surgical strike to Modi.

The commando team had carried out the “surgical strike” in the early hours against two militant training camps located about three km inside Myanmar from the International Border in Manipur.

Twenty insurgents were killed and 11 others injured in the simultaneous attacks on their camps after the highly trained Special Forces trekked for more than seven kms in the thick jungles from their staging point in Manipur.  The raiding team did not suffer any casualty.

This raid came four days after a joint group of NSCN(K), KlA and KlO ambushed an Army convoy in Chandel District of Manipur on June 4 killing 18 soldiers of 6 Dogra Regiment.

The soldiers managed to regroup after the initial assault and killed at least four militants whose bodies were recovered in the subsequent days from the dense jungles near the ambush site.  The attack was carried by more than 50 militants and most of them managed to escape to Myanmar as the international Border is only 15 km from the ambush site.
