In what was seen as an indication of truce between the Trinamool Congress’ reformist brigade and the old guards Tuesday’s party conference saw both Abhishek Banerjee who is also Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and poll strategist Prashant Kishor sharing the same stage with the Chief Minister where she took a whole lot of organsiational decisions appointing old timers to various organisational posts.
The Chief Minister went about announcing her decisions while both junior Banerjee and his pollster friend watched the proceedings quietly.
The party had come to a situation of a vertical split early this year after the TMC youth icon Abhishek Banerjee and Prashant Kishor had started introducing young faces triggering rebellion till down the district level.
So much so that at one point of time Kishor and the Chief Minister had reportedly exchanged messages indicating a formal break up. Regarding Tuesday’s development senior party leader Sudip Bandopadhyay said, “The TMC has always been a single unit performing under the guidance of Chief Minister Banerjee and it will continue to do so in future … good that everyone is working together now.”
