SR

The paramedical staff of various Government hospitals in the Capital went on a two-day strike on Tuesday causing much inconvenience to the patients. The strike has been called by the contractual employees to regularise their jobs and better wages with equal allowances.

Due to this, services were affected at several hospital including the lok Nayak Hospital, Dr Ambedkar Hospital, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya,Patel Nagar Hospital, lBS Hospital, Acharya Bhikshu Hospital, Jagpravesh Chandra Hospital, Hedgewar Hospital, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Ambedkar Hospital, Rao Tula Ram Hospital, Dada Dev Hospital and DDU Hospital.

Sources confirmed that patient care partially suffered, “There was no one to attend in the laboratory. I was going with my old mother from one end to the other asking for help in the hospital. Due to the unavailability of staff, I had to request almost beg one doctor to help in getting her sugar levels checked,” said one of the patient attendant.

“There are people working as radiologists, laboratories and nursing care but their demands have never been addressed.  Most of them are young in their 20s and 30s. They have been put on contractual basis for three or four years which is very bleak for their future.

There are many such employees across the Delhi hospitals and Governement has been very callous towards them.

The government lost the case in High Court and then a petition filed by them was also rejected by Supreme Court. Now the case is in the central administrative tribunal,” said VS Dahiya, the president of Delhi Government’s Contractual Employees.
