Parties kept from anti-rape Bill debate upset with Nath

Seven Opposition parties on Tuesday complained to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against the “style of functioning” of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath for not inviting them to the all-party meeting in connection with the debate on anti-rape bill.

The memorandum to Prime Minister was signed by CPI(M), CPI, AIADMK, BJD, Siromani Akali Dal, TDP and Shiv Sena MPs. “Kamal Nath is cherry picking and engaging surreptitious ways in parliamentary democracy. These tactics are unfair,” said CPI veteran Gurudas Dasgupta, who led the signature campaign of opposition parties.

“We will enquire the issue. We will call everyone (all parties) in the future,” Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said in the lok Sabha. However, he claimed that all parties were invited for today’s meeting.         PNS
