Once out of Beur Central Jail after his acquittal by Patna High Court in connection with the murder of CPI(M) leader Ajit Sarkar, the controversial former RJD MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav showcased himself as a “transformed” person in every sense even politically as he dropped sufficient hints about his willingness to join the Congress.
He was greeted by his large number of supporters including sizable number of RJD and Congress workers when he emerged out from Beur Central Jail on Tuesday. later, he went to his “Yuva Shakti” office at Polo Road from Beur Central Jail a huge procession Pappu Yadav was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of a former CPI (M) legislator, Ajit Sarkar in Purnea on June 14, 1998. He was convicted under sections 302 (murder) and 120 (b) (Criminal Conspiracy) of IPC for plotting the murder of Sarkar which was executed by former MlA Rajan Tiwari and others.
Patna High Court granted bail to Pappu Yadav, Rajan Tiwari and Anil Kumar Yadav four days ago by giving them benefit of doubt.
Pappu Yadav told The Pioneer that he “feels good” about the Congress on two issues-first its “commitment” to development and second its “non-discriminatory approach” towards all religions and castes.
He said that these “two virtues” of the Congress always attract him but refused to admit that he is eager to join the party.
State Congress president Ashok Choudhary told The Pioneer that it is quite natural for Pappu Yadav to say a few good words for his party as his wife is already a Congress leader.
He said that the State Congress has not given any thought to the probable entry of Pappu into the party so far, adding that it will provide its input to the party’s central leadership once it is advised to do so,
His wife, Ranjeet Ranjan had successfully contested the 2004 lok Sabha election from Saharsa on the lJP ticket but subsequently fought the 2009 general election from Supaul on the Congress ticket but lost the election.
Speaking rather philosophically, Pappu said that both moral and intellectual strengths are required to solve problems of the society, He said that people might get “external happiness” because of belonging to certain class, caste or religion but they do not have “internal happiness” due to the present socio-economic and political situation in the country.
Sitting next to his wife, Pappu who spent nearly 12 years largely behind the bar said that his first priority would be to meet his supporters in Kosi and Mithilanchal regions of the State. “These regions should play a decisive role in the lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” he remarked.
Though Pappu was behind bars, he continued to wield considerable influence in Purnea and Madhepura districts of the State. He might re-emerge as an important political force in the Kosi region in run up to the 2014 lok Sabha election.
Pappu also put his jail term to the best use by completing a Diploma Course in Disaster Management and finishing his MA in Sociology from Nalanda Open University.
His academic persuit is not limited to these handful of degrees and diplomas alone as he is also studying law from Magadh University.
Additionally, he has written his autobiography and it is likely to be published soon, Currently, he is busy with writing another book. He also plans to write books on judicial system and jails.
