Panic after low intensity blast in Kolkata

PNS

There was panic in central Kolkata when a low intensity blast was triggered by unknown persons at the city’s Chandni Chowk area on Friday noon, police said. Though the bomb went off in front of a shopping mall no one was hurt in the incident, a senior officer at lal Bazaar police headquarters said, adding the blast could have been triggered to spread terror in the vicinity. A second bomb kept inside a plastic container was recovered and defused by the bomb-squad.

“There is no information as to any motive behind the blast and it would be clear after the investigations are over,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, DP Singh said. Curiously the blast took place within a day of a team of police officers leaving Kolkata for Delhi to assist in the Yasin Bhatkal case.
